Publication Day!
At long last, Righting Wrongs is out in the world!
Grab a copy from your favorite physical or online retailer. And if you are so moved, please leave an online review somewhere or recommend that your school or public library purchase a copy.
The road to publication was long not because of my writing and research. I think it took me this long to conceive of this book because I’ve spent so much of my time nose-to-the-grindstone defending human rights. How could I possibly take time out to see where the ideas I was promoting came from? After all, they’re great ideas!
What I learned through preparing Righting Wrongs was that I was not alone on my path. So many people cleared the brush, figured out the curves, and eased the climbs (not that there weren’t some exhausting ascents). Writing this book gave me more hope for the world. More hope for future generations. And more belief in the core of human rights, that everyone ( including animals) is born with elemental rights.
If you want to hear more about how I came to write this book, check out this interview with The University of North Carolina’s World View program, which supports the state’s teachers (and wherein I get a little weepy as I think about all of the demands on teachers these days and how much they all need our steadfast support). I also did an interview with Duke Today, exploring a little of what banning a book like this means to our kids and teachers.
I’ve been excerpting sections of Righting Wrongs in my newsletter. If you are interested in a taste (and some additional information and background) please subscribe and look through my posts for profiles of Raph J. Bunche (“The Incurable Optimist”). Hansa Mehta (“A woman’s rights champion”), and more.
Also, if my book has whetted your appetite, check out the list I made for Shepherd of women’s human rights visionaries. They include Durham’s own Pauli Murray as well as Shirin Ebadi, Ingrid Newkirk, Judy Heumann, and Catherine Coleman Flowers.
Thank you for accompanying me on this journey—your words of encouragement, presence at the book launch, and advice have sustained me.
If interested, you can watch the book launch (it starts a little late).
Also released!
I’m also thrilled to let people know that the first two books of my fantasy trilogy are now available. There will be a sale soon, so keep your eyes peeled.
